- Ground Operators
Explore India’s famous Golden Triangle, visiting UNESCO World Heritage Sites in Delhi and Jaipur and culminating with the grandest of them all: the Taj Mahal in Agra. Between exploring the ever-vibrant, colorful Jaipur and historic Agra, you will also have the opportunity to experience the charm of rural India with an overnight in the comfortable Dera Village Retreat at Kalakho.
Day 1: Arrive Delhi
You will be met on arrival in Delhi and escorted to your hotel. Depending on your flight schedule, you may have time to explore sites in “New” Delhi this afternoon.
Day 2: Exploring Delhi
After breakfast, explore the historic sites of Old and New Delhi. The day begins in Old Delhi with a visit to the Raj Ghat. Then drive past the Red Fort on your way to the Jama Masjid, India’s largest mosque. Tour the bazaars of Chandni Chowk by cycle rickshaw, followed by a drive past the historical India Gate, the President’s estate, and the Parliament House. The day concludes with a visit to the capital’s most striking monument: the 230-foot-tall Qutab Minar.
Day 3: Drive to Agra
A four-hour drive brings you to Agra. In the afternoon visit the Agra Fort, which stands like a crescent on the banks of the Jamuna River, enclosed by forbidding 65-foot-high walls. In the evening, behold the glorious sight of the sun casting its mellow rays on the Taj Mahal, one of the wonders of the new world and surely the greatest symbol of love and devotion. (Note: The Taj Mahal is closed on Fridays.)
Day 4: Drive to Kalakho
Enjoy sunrise on the Taj Mahal before making the four-hour drive to Kalakho, passing through farming countryside dotted with small villages. You will be warmly greeted upon arrival at the Dera Village Retreat, which has been especially created to explore the living cultures of India. After lunch, camels (or, if you prefer, camel carts) will take you to a nearby village where members of the colorful Meena tribe reside; meet the villagers and learn about rural Indian life. A lively traditional folk dance performance at the Retreat this evening will surely leave you feeling jovial.
Day 5 : Drive to Jaipur
After breakfast, visit the Abhaneri step wells and then continue the 3-hour drive to Jaipur, home of India’s legendary Hindu warriors; their historic forts, palaces, and gardens lend a timeless quality to this storied region. On the way, stop at Sanganer to see Jaipur’s famous blue pottery and handmade paper being made. In the evening, head to the Amber Fort to enjoy a sound and light show that beautifully portrays the history of Jaipur.
Day 6 : Exploring Jaipur
You have a full day of sightseeing of Jaipur. In the morning, visit the Amber Fort, where you will have the opportunity to ride an elephant, then stop for a photo at the Palace of the Winds, or the Hawa Mahal. In the afternoon, make a visit to the City Palace, which now houses the royal residence and fine collections of textiles, costumes, armory, manuscripts, and paintings. A stop at the Jantar Mantar—a group of ancient, building-sized astronomical instruments—wraps up the day.
Day 7: Fly to Delhi & Depart India
In the morning, explore Jaipur’s old bazaar. This afternoon, you will be escorted to the Jaipur airport in time for your flight to Delhi. On arrival, transfer to a nearby hotel, where you can rest for a few hours before returning to the airport to check in for your international flight.
